As the national professional association for migration practitioners, the MIA recognises members who demonstrate commitment to ethical practice, leadership, contribution, and service to the migration profession.

MIA membership reflects a commitment to:

  • professionalism and ethical conduct;
  • ongoing professional development;
  • contribution to the migration profession;
  • leadership, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing; and
  • supporting the reputation and advancement of the profession.

Eligible members may use approved MIA post‑nominals relevant to their membership level and recognition.

Membership and Professional Recognition

MMIA™ - Member of the MIA

MMIA™ is the professional membership level for individuals who meet the MIA’s initial membership eligibility requirements and uphold the professional standards expected of MIA members. Members are part of a national professional community committed to ethical migration practice, professional development and industry engagement.

AFMIA™ - Associate Fellow of the MIA

Associate Fellowship recognises members who have made a sustained contribution to the MIA and the migration profession through professional engagement, leadership, mentoring, education, advocacy, knowledge-sharing, and service to the profession. AFMIA™ acknowledges respected professionals who actively contribute to advancing professional standards and supporting the growth and development of the migration advice profession.

FMIA™ - Fellow of the MIA

Fellowship is awarded in recognition of distinguished professional leadership and significant contribution to the migration profession and the MIA over an extended period. FMIA™ recognises senior professionals who have demonstrated outstanding professional standing, influence within the profession, and a longstanding commitment to advancing the objectives and reputation of the MIA and the migration advice profession.

LMMIA™ - Life Member of the MIA

Life Membership is the MIA’s highest professional recognition and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated enduring and exceptional service to the MIA and the migration profession. LMMIA™ recognises sustained contribution, leadership, advocacy, and commitment that has had a lasting impact on the Institute and the profession.
