Associate Fellowship (AFMIA™)

 

Associate Fellowship status recognises members who have demonstrated their commitment and contribution to the immigration advice profession, in general, and their contribution to the professional and ethical standards of the MIA. Associate Fellows of the MIA ensure their skills and knowledge remain current through ongoing professional development and contribution to the membership. 

Members who have achieved Associate Fellowship status are granted exclusive use of the AFMIA™ post nominal to indicate this esteemed membership status. 

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this award, nominated individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been an MIA member for at least 5 years in the last 7 years immediately prior to the date of nomination
  • Have practiced in the immigration advice profession for 5 or more years
  • Must have actively promoted and advanced the knowledge and professionalism of the immigration advice profession over the past 3 years
  • Be recommended in writing by two (2) Associate Fellows or Fellows or Life Members of the MIA to whom the applicant is personally known
  • Have an established professional reputation and high ethical standards and be held in high esteem within the MIA and/or the immigration advice profession

Selection Criteria

Selection for this award is based on the nominee meeting some or all of the following:

  • Significant Personal Contribution:
    Has made a substantial and ongoing contribution to the MIA over a reasonable period.

  • Knowledge Development and Sharing:
    Has contributed to the development and sharing of knowledge among immigration advice professionals especially MIA members.

  • Leadership in the Profession:
    Has demonstrated leadership in the immigration advice profession.

  • Advancement of the Industry/Profession: 
    Has made a substantial contribution to the advancement of the industry and/or immigration advice profession, including through upholding MIA core values.

Nomination Process

To apply for Associate Fellowship, follow these steps:

  1. Review: Scroll to the bottom of this page to review the nomination form.
  2. Nominate: Self-nominate by completing the online form.
  3. Submit: Ensure your application is submitted by the closing deadline of Sunday, 10 August 2025. 
  4. Late submissions will not be considered.

Selection Process

  1. After the submission deadline, nominations will be reviewed and assessed by an expert panel based on the eligibility and selection criteria.
  2. Successful nominations are then submitted to the MIA Board for consideration and resolution.
  3. Nominees will be notified of the results in August.
