Immigration Essentials for Lawyers is a five day workshop from 15-19 February 2010 covering essential topics for lawyers wishing to provide migration advice.

It is an opportunity to learn the visa types, review procedures and practical tips from Accredited Specialists in Immigration Law and experienced migration professionals.

Monday 15 February

  • Character, cancellation and deportation

Tuesday 16 February

  • General Skilled Migration
  • Temporary Business Sponsorship
  • Business Skills visas
  • Employer Nomination Scheme visas

Wednesday 17 February

  • Student visas
  • Appeals: merits and judicial review / Ministerial intervention

Thursday 18 February

  • Partner visas
  • Citizenship, Resident Return visas and eligibility for NZ citizens
  • Child, Remaining Relative and Carer visas
  • Refugee and humanitarian Visas

Friday 19 February

  • Parent and Contributory Parent visas
  • Temporary Entry, Visitor visas, Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), Temporary 400 series visas
  • Code of Conduct; complaints, registration requirements

PRESENTERS: An exciting list of Accredited Specialists and experienced migration professionals will be speaking throughout the course. 

PREREQUISITES: Course participants must hold a current legal practising certificate. No prior knowledge of immigration law is required.

Where and when will it be held?

The course runs from Monday 15 February - Friday 19 February 2010 and will be held at the MIA National Office - Level 3, 83 York St, Sydney NSW.

* Membership for the MIA will be granted once you have been registered as a migration agent by the Office of the MARA.
