    Frequently Asked Questions:

Will the Practical Migration Training be run like a CPD course?

The Practical Migration Training course will be conducted in a simulated practice environment so you can see what to do and what not to do when liaising with clients, government and the OMARA. We will take you through drafting, interviewing and legal analysis skills and show you how to run a practice ethically, responsibly and most importantly successfully.

You will also be taught by experienced teachers who have extensive experience in immigration law and practice. All teachers selected to teach this course are required to have training and teaching experience and be of the highest esteem within the migration industry.

What do I get from the course that I don’t get from other CPD courses?

You will receive immediate feedback from teachers about the materials that you prepare during the course such as letters, submissions, contracts and checklists. You will also be provided with pro forma checklists, submissions, letters and contracts that are kept updated and are accessible online using your course login details. As the class sizes are limited to 20 people, with at least four teachers per course you will receive personal feedback and training to enhance your skills and achieve a deeper understanding of how to effectively run a practice.

Practical Migration Training is comparable to a subject in a Masters course as opposed to a ten point CPD session. This course can also be used towards credit in post graduate studies at Victoria University.

Why is the course cost not proportionate to the cost of CPD courses?

The course is not as cheap as CPD courses as it is only held in small classes where all materials are provided, are kept up to date and you walk away ready to practice immigration law. As noted above, this course is comparable to a subject in a Master's course rather than a standard CPD course. It will involve intense, high quality learning that you will not gain in a standard CPD course.

This course is recommended as an entry to practice for Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Migration Law & Practice and RMAs looking to begin work as a sole practitioner.

The course is not as cheap as other CPD courses, because it is simply not like other CPD courses that are currently on offer. This course is more like a Masters subject, contains high quality material and is taught intensively with small student to teacher ratios so you get detailed, immediate and personal feedback and input about your work.

Who is the course aimed at?

    The course is aimed at:

    a) recent Graduate Certificate in Migration Law & Practice Graduates;

    b) Registered Migration Agents who would like to become Sole Practitioners; or

    c) Sole Practitioners who would like to enhance their practice skills.

However, even if you do not fall into any of the above categories you are welcome to attend the course as the experience, knowledge and resources provided in the course will enhance any practitioner’s day to day practice skills.

The course includes the following components:

    34276 Accounts Management Mandatory

    34279 Business Management Mandatory

34278 Ethics and Professional Practice Mandatory
