The MPE CPD Express 10 Point Course offer four modules throughout the day workshop.
Morning Module 1: The Advanced Refresher
This is an update on the latest developments in case law, legislative activity, policy and issues concerning the immigration portfolio generally including:
- Court decisions that set precedents which must be followed by decision-makers or which are relevant to the day-to-day work of the migration professional
- Tribunal decisions that highlight matters relevant to advanced practice such as approaches to evidence, procedures, statutory interpretation and trends in decision-making
- Critical analysis of recent legislative and policy developments in immigration and other areas of law that impact on immigration
- Discussion and analysis of media commentary, political debates and government inquiries concerning migration matters and the migration agent profession
Morning Module 2: Interactive Case Study Workshop
This session features the popular and enjoyable case study workshop, with cases based on realistic scenarios relating to various visa subclasses and the more complex issues encountered by experienced agents and require participants to work through a solution using legislation, case law and other relevant resources.
They involve scenarios featuring the more difficult aspects of migration practice and cover a range of areas such as:
| Permanent and Temporary employer sponsored visas | Citizenship matters | Family visas |
| Time limits and valid application requirements | Section 48 issues | Student Visas |
| Visitor visas – sponsored and unsponsored | Unlawful applications | Protection Visas |
| Health and character issues | Partner visas | Code of Procedure |
| Condition 8503, 8534 and 8535 waivers | Business Skills visas | General Skilled Migration |
Note: The morning session also includes a short 20 question multiple choice quiz. Completion of the quiz allows participants to receive the six CPD Points for their Office of the MARA professional development requirements.
Afternoon Module 1: Interactive Case Study Workshop
This module will involve more case studies but the emphasis will be on realistic scenarios relating to problems encountered in day-to-day practice by experienced agents, such as:
- Difficult clients
- Client complaints to professional bodies
- Clients affected by changes in the law or policy
- Problematic decision-makers
- Ethical dilemmas, conflicts of interest and professional discipline
Afternoon Module 2: Experiential Workshop
This is the brainstorming session where you will be able to raise issues of concern to you that you face in your own practice for group discussion. This can range from “true confessions” where you have made mistakes to venting some steam about what irks you about working in the migration field. The discussion will be moderated to ensure benefit not only to you but also to the group as a whole.
