State Branches

Each of the five State Branches elect a Branch President who serves on the National Board of MIA, chairs Branch meetings and CPD courses and communicates local concerns to the Board and the Secretariat.

Branch Committee positions are elected are in accordance with the MIA Constitution, which specifies: two Commercial Members; one Commercial Organisation Member; one Non-commercial Member; and one Legal Practising Certificate Holding member. New Committees elect officer bearers, including Vice Presidents and Secretaries, and may induct Members to fill any vacant positions and a Student Member position.

The Committees help ensure effective and appropriate communication on behalf of the membership with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and government bodies, as well as promoting the Institute's vision and objectives, supporting the membership generally, hosting Member events and other ad hoc duties.
